CSK buy Mitchell Santner for Rs 50 Lakh
Chennai Super Kings have recruited Mitchell Santner for just Rs 50 lakh, making him one of the steals of the auction.
Santner though is a very good utility player, but CSK bidding for him seems a little baffling, as CSK already had 4 spinners in their arsenal.
New Zealand’s Santner bowls left arm spin and is a more than handy batsman down the order. He could slot into the spinning all rounders role for CSK, but they already have Jaddu for that spot and hence it looks unlikely that Santner would make it to the XI
CSK’s Bidding
Chennai Super Kings came into Day 2 of the auction short of a good opening batsman, short of good fast bowlers and an absence of some much needed youth in the team.
The team management would have gotten back to the drawing board last night, identifying players that they would be needing in order to setup a balanced squad.
Riding in on the Jaydev Unadkat bid, it was clear that CSK wanted an Indian fast bowler to lead their attack. With Unadkat having broken into the Indian T20 squad recently, there were multiple franchises looking to secure his services.
CSK though had to bow out of the Unadkat bid and went in for Shardul Thakur instead, who came in at a much cheaper price of Rs 2.2 crore.
Chennai need to go in for a good opening batsman now and would be desperately looking for a good fast bowler to lead their seam attack
