CSK buy Shardul Thakur for Rs 2.2 crores
The returning Super Kings have infuriated their fans, as CSK bought quite a few players over the age of 30.
They added eight players, in addition to the three that they retained, with all them over 30, with Ravindra Jadeja being one of the youngest at 29 years of age.
They packed their side with all-rounders in Bravo, Watson and Jadhav. Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir are also good buys in addition to the previously retained Jadeja.
This is how the CSK squad looks after the first day of the auction.
MS Dhoni (retained 15 crore), Suresh Raina (retained, 11 c), Ravindra Jadeja (retained 7 c), Faf du Plessis (1.5 c), Harbhajan Singh (2 c), Dwayne Bravo (6.4 c), Shane Watson (4 c), Kedar Jadhav (7.8 c), Ambati Rayudu (2.2 c), Imran Tahir (1 c), Karn Sharma (5 c)
CSK needed to bring in a young Indian fast bowler, as they made it quite obvious in the auction. They went all in for Jaydev Unadkat, but were eventually outbid by Rajasthan Royals, who bought left-armer for R 11.5 crores.
The CSK camp were tensed, as they urgently needed someone who could bowl in the death overs. So that’s why when Shardul Thakur’s name came up in the auction, CSK went all out for him and got the pace bowler for Rs 2.2 crores.
Thakur played for the Rising Pune Super Giants, as MS Dhoni would have observed him closely at Pune. No doubt, Mahi would have played a part in Thakur’s selection, as the wicket-keeper will have understood the strengths of the pacer.
Good buy from CSK!
