Daniel Bryan didn’t feel like he would be successful in the WWE

Daniel Bryan didn’t feel like he would be successful in the WWE. He recalled believing CM Punk would be a success in the company but couldn’t say the same about himself.

Daniel Bryan is one of the most popular wrestlers in the world right now. He is a grand slam champion in the WWE and is easily one of the biggest names on their rosters. However, Bryan initially thought that he wouldn’t make it in the company.

Bryan overcame the odds to grab the brass rings and mount himself at the top of the company. This, despite not fitting the mould of what Vince McMahon thinks a top wrestler should look like. However, Bryan did it, not only with his brilliant wrestling skills but also amazingly entertaining character work too.

As surprising as it is though, Bryan himself thought he wasn’t too good at promos and would therefore flop in the promotion.

“I remember when [CM] Punk signed with WWE and I thought like, man, if they give him a shot, he’s gonna blow them away,” Daniel Bryan said on WWE Backstage Interview.

“I actually didn’t think that about myself and the reason why is because WWE is so promo-heavy, and so interview-heavy, and at that point, I was not good at promos; and I would say actively bad, maybe, would be some of the terms.

“I could do a sports promo, like, OK, hey, you’re fighting this guy, OK, I’m going to go in there and do this, or whatever it is, but as far as being entertaining, I could do that a little bit but that’s not what they would do with smaller guys and that sort of thing, and my interest has always been in my love for wrestling and I’ve never wanted to be famous and I only needed enough money to survive, so the rest of it was just, OK, whatever.”

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
