Real Madrid and Barcelona are more than two football teams. They are footballing institutions that posses some of the finest footballers in the game today.

Every year, these two Spanish giants face each other in the biggest derby match in the footballing calendar, El Classico.

Over the last decade, Lionel Messi has been at the forefront of everything great at Barcelona, as the Catalan club established themselves as the best side in the world.

But things have started changing, as Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid have slowly but surely wrested that tag from Barcelona, and are dominating the footballing scene at the moment.

We as fans get to see these two teams clash on at least two occasions every year, with our eyes glued to our television sets whenever Messi and Ronaldo take to the field to face each other.

The last of these meetings happened a few weeks ago when Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Now we understand that Real Madrid and Barcelona will face each other on December 23. This was earlier scheduled to take place on December 20, but was postponed to 23rd.

Barcelona will be looking to extract revenge on their classico rivals, as the catalan side were outclassed 5-1 on aggregate. They are currently leading the points table, after three wins out of three.

With Real struggling in the league right now, they will no doubt be looking to up their game as they head towards their first clash against Barcelona.
