David De Gea contract: Man Utd goalkeeper might join PSG in the summer window

David De Gea could leave Manchester United in the near future as exit links intensify.

Manchester United travelled to Barcelona in the hopes of salvaging their season, but they were hit hard by Lionel Messi and Co. The hosts won the game 3-0 which meant that the Red Devils will end up without a silverware for the second season on a bounce. More than getting trounced in front of the away supporters, individual errors from their players came back to haunt them.

When Ashley Young struggled to clear the ball, Lionel Messi took full advantage of it to score it past David De Gea. Four minutes later, the Blaugrana skipper took a plodding shot from outside the box, but the Red Devils shot-stopper made a total fuss of it by letting the ball leave underneath his body to hand over the two-goal cushion.

It was very uncharacteristic of David De Gea, who committed a mistake in the weekend against West Ham United in the Old Trafford too. The Spaniard has made four direct errors, which is the third most in the Premier League after Asmir Begovic and Jordan Pickford. One part might be a weak defence in front of him, but he has not been at his best, to say the least.

David De Gea certainly had a downfall with Spain in the World Cup, and has struggled to pick up his form with his club too. Besides his poor form, the 28-year-old is set to be demanding 500,000 pounds per week to put pen to paper. His contract ends in 2020 and Manchester United are fearing that he would run down his contract or force a transfer in the summer transfer window, according to the English outlet Independent.

Albeit his contract conundrum, his average displays over the last few months are not helping his course; with this reason being the primary to make the club make a decision on his future. Even if the club does not manage to retain his services, the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint Germain have been keeping one eye on the problem at Old Trafford.

PSG are currently sticking with the 41-year-old Gianluigi Buffon, but the availability of David De Gea will change the scene at Parc des Princes. It would be a welcome move for the French outfit who are desperate to lift the Champions League after getting knocked out by the Red Devils in the Champions League Round of 16.

Manchester United will concentrate on the remaining Premier League games as they battle out for the place in the top four. The Red Devils will travel to Merseyside to play Everton on Sunday.
