David De Gea new contract: The Spanish goalkeeper is reportedly keen on signing a new deal at the club.
Manchester United made their way into the round-of-16 of the Champions League with a win over Young Boys. Marouane Fellaini scored an injury-time winner to ensure progress in the next round, after De Gea kept United in the game with an incredible effort.
The Spanish goalkeeper made an extraordinary dive to stop the ball on the goalline, which prevented the Swiss champions from taking the lead in the clash.
Jose Mourinho spoke highly of the goalkeeper, calling him ‘the best in the world’ in the post-match conference. The manager also talked about De Gea’s future at the club, stating that the player wants to stay.
After Mourinho’s comments, fresh reports from English media outlet Manchester Evening News claim that the Spaniard is keen on the deal, but on one condition.
David De Gea new contract:
De Gea’s camp is ‘optimistic’ on the new deal, reports M.E.N.’s journalist Ciaran Kelly. The journalist also reports that David De Gea’s partner, Edurne has relocated to Manchester and the Spaniard wants a new deal at the club.
However, Kelly also reports that Manchester United need to prove that they can match the goalkeeper’s ambition.
United and David de Gea’s camp have been ‘optimistic’ he will sign new deal. ‘Keeper’s been moved by fans’ support and his partner has relocated to Manchester. Key for United now is to prove they can match his ambition. Class act. #mufc

David De Gea arrived at the club in 2011 and won his first Premier League trophy two years later, in Sir Alex’s final season in-charge. However, things have gone downhill for the club since.
Manchester United have failed to win a single league title since Fergie’s retirement, and spent two seasons outside the Champions League. Under Louis van Gaal, the side crashed out in the group stages of Europe’s premier tournament, and lost to Sevilla in the round-of-16 last season.
Moreover, United are currently 7th in the Premier League with the only club in the table’s top-10 to have a negative goal difference.

The key for Manchester United and Jose Mourinho, hence, is to deliver results and create the appropriate climate for De Gea to sign a new deal at the club.
Mourinho stated after the Champions League clash against Young Boys that the club is ‘working’ on the new deal.
Jose: “David de Gea is a world class player. The best goalkeeper in the world. If our ambitions are to be a winning club, you need the best goalkeeper in the world and best other players in the world. I know he wants to stay and the agent wants to do what he wants.”

“I know he wants to stay, I know his agent (Jorge Mendes) is happy to do what the player wants and I also know the board want him to stay and they are working on that so hopefully sooner or later they reach a conclusion.”
