Manchester United goalkeeper did not deny a move out of the club during a press conference on international duty.
David De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for a long time. The goalkeeper came close to signing for Real in 2015.
In a recent interaction with media on Spain’s Media Day, the shot-stopper was questioned regarding his interest in a move to Real Madrid again. However, De Gea insisted that his focus is only on the world cup campaign with Spain at the moment.
“My future? The important thing is the World Cup and not to think of anything else that can divert you or upset you,” said De Gea.
On being asked whether De Gea has communicated to his representatives about keeping a tab on the transfer market, the Spanish goalkeeper hinted that there can be a possibility of a move. “Football is football and a thousand things can happen. But I’m always calm. Come what may, I’ll be the same. It is important to be focused and be 100%,” said De Gea.
This will be the first world cup where David De Gea will be in the Spain’s squad as the first-choice goalkeeper, and quite deservedly so. The goalkeeper has been the Manchester United’s Player of the Season this year.
De Gea couldn’t start a game in the 2014 world cup due to the presence of Iker Casillas. Spain made a shocking exit in the group stages of the world cup in Brazil.
The Spanish goalkeeper then became the first choice for the international side, and represented them in Euro 2016, where they were knocked out in the RO-16 match.
Spain completed their warm-up schedule for the World Cup in Russia this summer with a 1-0 win over Tunisia, after drawing their first game 1-1 against Switzerland. They will play their first match of the world cup against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
