Diego Godin slams Cristiano Ronaldo over lack of respect in Champions League

Diego Godin has aimed a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo for that cojones celebration in front of the Atletico Madrid fans.

Diego Godin has slammed Cristiano Ronaldo over the lack of respect showed while his side met Juventus in the Champions League last season.

During the Round of 16 round, Diego Simeone did a cojones celebration in front of his fans, which came to loom light. The former Real Madrid forward, having tons of rivalries with Los Rojiblancos, did the same celebration in the reverse leg after the completion of a hat-trick to drive the Old Lady to the last eight of the competition. But, he did that in front of the Spanish side fans which came to the Uruguyuan’s frustration.

In addition to that, Diego Simeone and Cristiano Ronaldo faced numerous times during the Madrid derby. The duo had verbal exchanges in the Spanish top division over the last decade.

Godin told Gazzetta Dello Sport: “El Cholo [Simeone] turned to his audience, the tension led him to make that gesture, he didn’t have it with Juve.

“Ronaldo’s gesture was different, he didn’t respect people.”

The former Manchester United forward once punched Diego Godin during a derby clash between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, with the man now on the books at Serie A side Inter told: “What happens on the pitch remains on the field. And I don’t talk about it. But I don’t like it when you lack respect.”

An intense rivalry is set to be rekindled in the Serie A with Juventus after Godin’s transfer to Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan.

“It’s not a technical issue but one in the head. The concentration.

“For 90 minutes you can’t give up for a second, because that’s the one second that’s enough for him to score.” he said when quizzed on how difficult a prolific frontman can be to contain.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..
