Ehsan Khan on Dhoni

Ehsan Khan on Dhoni: Hong Kong’s off-break bowler speaks on how dismissing Dhoni was like a dream-come-true moment for him.

From not getting enough chances in Pakistan to moving to Hong Kong and eventually representing them in international cricket, Ehsan Khan has had his share of struggles. Known as his team’s ‘Golden Arm’, Ehsan had made his debut for Hong Kong in 2016. He has a combined tally of 35 international wickets under his belt in the 15 ODIs and four T20Is that he has played.

Hong Kong playing in the recently-concluded Asia Cup was a big boost for them as a cricketing nation for their players had an opportunity to play against some of the best in the business. For Ehsan particularly, playing against India was nothing less than achieving his dreams.

In my dreams, I would often think of dismissing Sachin Tendulkar or MS Dhoni. Sachin ko nahi kar paya, dukh hai. Dhoni ka wicket mila…Isliye jhuk key sajda kiya (Couldn’t take the wicket of Sachin but bagged the wicket of Dhoni. This is why I bent down and paid respect),” Ehsan said in a chat with The Indian Express.

“If Sachin is god then Dhoni is the ‘King of cricket’. I have plans to write a book on my career and when I do,  MS Dhoni will be the main chapter. I shall read it to my grandson because life is like a fairytale now,” he further said.

In the match against India, Hong Kong came close to sealing the chase, but ended up losing by 26 runs. It was inexperience at the highest level which saw them losing the battle. After the match, the Indian players were seen bonding with their counterparts in their dressing room.

The session involved lot of taking photos and the Indians discussing the game with the Hong Kong players. Ehsan spoke to Dhoni, who he had earlier dismissed on a duck. “You have a lot of cricket left. Fitness is what you should be looking at,” Dhoni said to Ehsan in the dressing room.

Khata hi kholne nahi diya. Koi nahi dekhunga ball replay mein.(Didn’t let him open the account. Will keep watching the ball on the replay)”, Ehsan also made public on how Dhoni had greeted him in an amusing way during the dressing room interaction.
