George Russell has had a fairly decent showing throughout the first half of the 2023 F1 season. The Briton managed to finish P6 in the Belgian GP with a subpar Mercedes before F1 headed into its four-week-long summer break. As soon as the break commenced, Russell, who is currently worth $16,000,000 as per Spanish outlet MARCA, wasted absolutely no time and hired a private jet to meet up with his girlfriend in Ibiza.
F1 drivers are one of the highest-paid athletes in the world and time is of the essence for them. Therefore it is no surprise that most of them decide to fly in their private jets when they need to get somewhere.
While this has attracted widespread criticism because of the huge amount of carbon footprint generated by the private jets, George Russell did not really have much of a choice. The nearest airport to Spa happens to be Liege, which does not have substantial passenger traffic. Therefore, the quickest way out for Russell was a private aircraft.
George Russell could not wait to go on vacation
The flight from Liege to Ibiza would take around three hours. As per Paramount Business Jets, the flight that Russell chartered comes with a price tag of $3,250 per hour. Therefore, the Mercedes driver had to shell out a minimum of $9,750 to reunite with his girlfriend.
F1 reporter Kym Illman said, “Post-race, he departed on a 2008 Cessna Citation Jet CJ2+ that seats seven.” He further explained, “Was he off to the UK? No! Indeed he was off on holidays.”

Illman revealed that Russell had flown off to Ibiza to meet up with his girlfriend Carmen Montero Mundt. There, they attended the Ushuaia Music Festival along with AlphaTauri’s Daniel Ricciardo and his girlfriend Heidi Berger.
A much needed break from F1
Russell enjoyed an extended vacation in Ibiza with his girlfriend. He also indulged in several adventure sports in the Spanish resort, including surfing and riding a water jetpack.
