Alex Albon Is Literally Shedding Blood and Sweat to Get Williams Back to the Glory Days

Modern Formula 1 has mostly seen Williams as a team living off of its rich history and heritage. The team from Grove has been a backmarker for most of the last decade. However, Alex Albon is giving his blood, sweat, and tears to try and get Williams back to the top. Following a brilliant performance at the British Grand Prix Qualifying session, Albon was caught bleeding from his shoulders.

The Williams driver was answering questions from the media when George Russell interrupted him. Russell brought to attention the fact that Albon was bleeding from his shoulder, the blood seeping through his fireproof suit.

Albon has put in some brilliant performances for Williams in the 2023 season. Albon has consistently managed to get his Williams into Q3 for the last three races. On top of that, he is the only driver on the grid with a 10-0 Qualifying record over his teammate.

Alex Albon is nothing short of a ‘Warrior’

On noticing the blood-stained shoulder of Albon, Russell said, “Can we just see this Warrior!” as he turned the Williams driver around to show the blood on his fireproof suit. However, Albon just shrugged it off and replied, “It’s downforce, what can I say.”

Albon revealed further that this happens to him on most of the race weekends. His skin rips near the shoulder and bleeds and then heals before the next race weekend, where it happens again. Albon explained that this is because he is so tall that he has to sit with rounded shoulders and thought it was quite normal.

The Williams driver even went ahead and asked former World Champion Jenson Button if he bled from his shoulder as well, to which Button replied in the negative. Albon inferred that it must be because Button is shorter than him.

Albon is tied to Williams till 2025

Alex Albon had quite a disappointing stint at Red Bull. He failed to make a mark during his short time at the Milton Keynes outfit and was replaced ahead of the 2021 season. He made a return with Williams in 2022 and has been improving ever since.

His performances have received acclaim from Red Bull boss Christian Horner in the past. Chief Advisor Helmut Marko joined after the British GP Qualifying and added to the praise.

As for a possible return to Red Bull, Marko revealed, “[He] is unfortunately tied to Williams until the end of 2025.” However, after Albon’s contract with Williams ends, if the Thai-Brit driver can keep up his performances, Red Bull would definitely be interested in taking him back under their wing.
