F1 Sochi Grand Prix 2020: Red Bull's Alex Albon imposed with a five-place grid penalty for the Russian GP

Alexander Albon Penalty: Red Bull’s star driver Albon might be disqualified from the Hungarian GP race as Red Bull was spotted drying grid box.

Red Bull is at the risk of losing their points from Alexander Albon in the Hungarian GP, as their team was caught drying his grid box prior to the race which poses a threat of disqualification.

It has been reported that the stewards have summoned the officials of Red Bull after the race for allegedly drying Albon’s dried slot. Formula 1 released an early statement during the race confirming that Red Bull had dried the grid slot used for Albon’s car, lining up 13th, and referred the issue to the stewards.

“The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team artificially dried the grid box of car number 23 by using the engine cooling air of their leaf blowers when using these to cool the car engine,” Bauer wrote.

“As this is in contradiction to the race director’s notes, I am referring this matter to the Stewards for their consideration.” FIA passed the law in 2017 banning the drying of the grid box.

Red Bull’s hard-fought race

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen kept the aspirations of the Austrian side still alive after grabbing the second position in the race and surviving the hard battle with Valtteri Bottas.

Meanwhile, Albon ended the race at 5th position, a decent performance by him as he started the race from 13th position, a jump of 8 positions, which is impressive in itself.

However, he risks getting disqualification or might get a 10-second penalty, which may take him 2-3 positions down in the final result. Now the latest verdict from the stewards is awaited.
