"Almost a bit embarrassing"- Schumacher on Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes contract extension deadlock

“Almost a bit embarrassing”- Schumacher on Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes not reaching a conclusive agreement till now.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have been involved in a contract negotiation talk over the past two months, but the things seem to be far from being confirmed.

Hence, compelling former Formula 1 driver Ralph Schumacher to call out the prolonged fiasco, for him it is atrocious that the most important driver on the grid doesn’t have the surety of his participation in 2021.

”It’s a shame and almost a bit embarrassing. It is now February and the most important man in Formula 1, the seven-time world champion, has still not been confirmed as a driver.”

I keep hearing that it would be about money, but I hope that is not true. In particular, Hamilton should know that in this day and age you cannot demand 100 per cent,” Schumacher said according to Speedweek.com.

Lewis Hamilton should shake himself up.

Whilst claiming Hamilton to be the most important driver on the current grid, he also emphasised that the time in F1 is changing, and he may no longer remain a topmost priority for Mercedes and can be replaced anytime soon. Hence, he shall amend things accordingly.

”Hamilton should also know that Formula 1 is bigger than any individual. Maybe Hamilton needs to shake himself up now too. There is still a risk of Mercedes putting George Russell in that car. Hamilton should never forget that,” concludes Ralf.

Though Toto Wolff, last week revealed that Hamilton would be driving for Mercedes in 2021, and they don’t intend to reshape their current lineup.

The Mercedes team principal pointed out that a few legal intricacies and the geographical distance between him and Hamilton due to the pandemic are causing an unwarranted delay.

But he has also assured that Hamilton will not be signing any long term agreement with the Brackley based team.
