Carlos Sainz Could Soon Give Up Ferrari Dreams to Rescue Mid-Field F1 Team

Carlos Sainz has been pushed to become his teammate’s wingman at Ferrari. And while Charles Leclerc has rightfully earned his place as the leader of the team, no one wants to be second. Although he’s ahead of his teammate on the board, his on-track struggles far from compensate for it. While every driver dreams of a championship in Red, has the time come for Sainz to be practical?

Alpine seems to be in a similar situation. They have a capable car, with more potential than what is being translated on the track. However, the pressure is on the driver lineup of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. The duo has failed to push the car and extract everything it has to offer.

Thus, rumor has it that the French team has their eyes on Carlos Sainz.

Could Carlos Sainz move to Alpine?

It’s no secret that a move from Ferrari to Alpine is a step-down. And it’s not what Sainz would want, necessarily. But what has his time with Ferrari really given him? Apart from his first victory in Silverstone last season, the highlight reel of his career with the Maranello outfit is awfully short.

So would Alpine be the smart choice? According to El Nacional, the team is thinking of changing their drivers. With CEO Laurent Rossi dubbing the French duo “amateurs” things aren’t looking good for Gasly and Ocon.

The Spanish website reports that Ocon hasn’t thrived in his role as team leader and Gasly “is far from being an elite driver.” Harsh, but true. However, both these requirements could be fulfilled in Sainz.

Although Sainz has faults of his own, many to his own accord, stepping away from the pressures at Ferrari could solve most of them. Further, El Nacional had also earlier reported that Ferrari reciprocates these feelings of frustration. “Ferrari are starting to get tired of Carlos Sainz.”

As Sainz fails to meet expectations, tensions are high at Ferrari. “The Spanish driver is not performing in the team as expected, and they are getting fed up with the excuses from Madrid. The truth is that, for some time now, at Ferrari, they are beginning to be upset with Sainz.”

So will the pieces fall into place for a potential Alpine move for Sainz? It’s a long shot, but in the world of F1, anything is possible.
