After the disappointing cancelation of the Imola Grand Prix this weekend due to torrential rains and flooding, F1 is all set to visit the Monaco Grand Prix next. Ahead of one of the most historic F1 races, home favorite Charles Leclerc once revealed an important memory from his childhood.
Ahead of his first home F1 race in 2017, the Ferrari driver took to his Twitter account and wrote, “Since I was born, I’ve seen them build the first grandstand for the GP. But for the first time, I’ll be racing here“.

Leclerc interestingly ended his post with a hashtag that stated that his house is in turn one. After five disappointing races in Monaco, the 25-year-old will now hope to delight his home crowd with an impressive performance in his sixth attempt.
Charles Leclerc suffered heartbreak at the Monaco GP last year
If there is any race that any F1 driver is desperate to win, then that is undoubtedly their home race. And for Charles Leclerc, there could not have been a worse heartbreak last year. Despite securing a fantastic pole and leading most part of the race, the Monegasque failed to win because of a pit-stop error made by Ferrari.
His Ferrari team had initially asked him to pit before they changed their decision at the last moment. When the team informed Leclerc to stay out, it was already too late as the 25-year-old had already entered the pits. On leaving the pits, Leclerc rejoined the race in fourth place, where he finished.
Following the conclusion of the race, Leclerc was undoubtedly fuming with his team. As quoted by ESPN, the Monegasque said,
“No words. I know the season is long, but we cannot do that. It was a freaking disaster today. The win was clearly in our hands. We had the performance. We had everything. I just don’t really understand the call that I had and I need explanations for now”.
RACE UPDATE:
Charles will not start the race due to an issue with the left driveshaft which is impossible to fix in time for the start of the race. #MonacoGP

Since this was the second year running that Leclerc could not convert pole position into a win at his home race, the frustration was all the more for the Monegasque. As for the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix, Leclerc could not even start the race due to a driveshaft issue.
Leclerc built up excitement for his home race with a stunning Pista drive
Ahead of his home race, Charles Leclerc and his brother, Arthur, delighted their fans with a stunning drive in their Ferrari Pista around the streets of Monaco. The 25-year-old also uploaded a few pictures and a video of the same on his social media account, which received a lot of traction from his fans.

In another video uploaded by a fan called Clara as seen above, several supporters of the Leclerc brothers can be seen having gathered around the Monaco GP circuit to get a first-hand view. The number of supporters gathered for a short video is a small indication of the number of fans the two will get next weekend at their home race.
