Despite Fernando Alonso Crediting Regulation Change for Max Verstappen Dominance, Aston Martin Star is Unsure Whether he Could Replicate it

Fernando Alonso has recently opened up on Max Verstappen’s superior dominance after the regulations changed last year. The Dutchman has picked up 27 wins in one and a half seasons already, more than he did in his entire career prior to this. Now, Alonso zeroing in on this, said to Soy Motor that he isn’t sure if he could replicate it, even if is driving for a team like Red Bull.

Following his 15-win championship campaign last season, Verstappen has picked up 12 wins already this year. His most recent victory came at the 2023 Italian GP in Monza. With that, he claimed ten back-to-back wins and made history. Citing this, the Spanish driver was full of praise for the Red Bull driver.

Alonso, who himself is in great form with Aston Martin has doubts if he could reach Verstappen’s level. Even if he drives a Red Bull, he isn’t sure if he can replicate the defending champion’s recent heroics, as he puts a big question mark on their supremacy.

Fernando Alonso was full of appraisal for Max Verstappen

Alonso has wholeheartedly praised Verstappen in his recent interview with El Larguero as per Soy Motor. He said that the two-time world champion is doing a superior job and deserves humility. Soon after this, he doubted himself against the Dutchman.

Talking about this, the 42-year-old said, “I don’t know if I would lead the World Championship with a Red Bull, I don’t stop to think about it either. What I am clear about is that Verstappen is doing a job superior to the rest, you have to accept it and see it with humility.”

Even though the Spanish driver is unsure whether he can beat the Red Bull star driver, he is ambitious enough to aim for his 33rd race victory by beating Verstappen at least once.

Alonso and his long awaited 33rd win

Fernando Alonso has been waiting for his 33rd F1 win for a long time. A decade has passed since he last won an F1 race, and that was in his home Grand Prix with Ferrari. With his form in the early stages this season, fans started predicting another win.

However, it was far from possible as the Spaniard could only muster P2 as his best finish in 2023. Now, as F1 moves out of Europe to move to Asia, it will be interesting to see whether Aston Martin can help Alonso with the car to beat the ever dominant Verstappen.

Furthermore, the Silverstone-based team would also need to make sure they get the better of Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren before they take on Red Bull. If they can pull this off, it will be a testimony of Aston Martin being the next big power in Formula 1.
