Carlos Sainz Sr, father of Ferrari F1 driver, fractured two vertebrae in the horrific crash at the Dakar Rally earlier this month.
He had awkwardly jumped his Audi RS Q E-Tron over a sand dune which landed nose down into a hole in the ground.
Right after the crash, he reported severe chest pain and some ache in the right side of his torso. But when he was airlifted to a nearby hospital, he asked the pilot to return him back to his car.
Revealing the news to the public, the 60-year-old wrote on social media that the pain after the crash had persisted longer than usual. Therefore he had undergone medical checks in Madrid.
The doctors then revealed to him that he has fractured two vertebrae and the good thing is that they are stable.

Carlos Sainz got his father into trouble with the FIA
Sainz junior had visited his father at the Rally and soon caught the attention of the FIA delegates after he was seen assisting Sainz Sr.
At first, he was observing the repairs that were being made to the car before he helped shut down the doors of his father’s car after Sainz Sr and his co-driver Lucas Cruz got in.
The FIA noticed Sainz Jr at the Rally and saw it as an act of violation of the regulations. The rules state that no assistance is allowed within a kilometre of the car, except for a few scenarios.
Gracias a todos por el apoyo y cariño recibido en los últimos días. Os mantendré informados,
Carlos Sainz
