F1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix: Tyre choices available to the drivers for today's final race at Silverstone

F1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix: The SportsRush lists down the set of tyres available with the 24 drivers for today’s final race at Silverstone.

Tyre degradation has been a major talking point since last weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The front-left tyres of Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas suffered failures during the last 3 laps of the race. Apart from them, McLaren’s Carlos Sainz also suffered a similar fate, losing out on crucial championship points.

Carlos Sainz and Valtteri Bottas were fifth and second in the race respectively when the front-left tyre failures happened. Both drivers eventually missed on the Top 10, as numerous drivers went past them.

Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, somehow managed to drag his car across the chequered flag to win the race. He finished ahead of eventual runner-up Max Verstappen by almost six seconds.

Tyre choices for the 70th Anniversary GP

70th anniversary gpA Reddit user has uploaded with shows the various tyre options available with the 24 drivers on the grid today. As seen above, Hard compound tyres are going to be in prime focus considering the risks involved the softer compounds. Silverstone is hot and humid around this time, and tyre degradation necessitates the use of the harder compound tyres.

Apart from Renault’s drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon, – who have only 1 hard tyre –  all the drivers in the grid have two sets of hard tyres available for the race. Both Mercedes of Hamilton and Bottas have brand new sets of hard tyres available with them. This could prove crucial if they go for a two-stop strategy today.

It remains to be seen which teams get their tyre strategy spot on, and help their drivers rise up the track positions. It is going to be a fascinating race, with special emphasis on the final few laps of the race. The teams would be hoping to not see a repeat of the climactic British Grand Prix, today at Silverstone.
