F1 Driver of the day: Sergio Perez wins poll with stellar performance at Styrian GP

F1 Driver of the Day: Sergio Perez wins hearts of the fans even with the mid-table result; wins the poll of Formula 1 driver of the day at Styrian GP.

After the intense battle of 71 laps, the new Styrian Grand Prix 2020 is finally over with Lewis Hamilton taking the first podium followed by teammate Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

However, the driver who won the hearts of the fans during the race was Sergio Perez, who was elected as the winner of the driver of the day award in the online poll by the Formula 1.

Even though Perez made few mistakes to lose 5th position in the final standings to Lando Norris, he still managed to be at the top at the end of the polling.

F1 Driver of the Day; highlights of his performance

Perez had a hard time during the qualifier as he got the 17th position in the grid. But his impressive start in the race took him above on the order, and he had no problem in cruising by 11 drivers in the grid including his teammate Lance Stroll.

His exciting style of racing impressed the fans and showed his impressive jump from 17th to 6th. But even his final standings doesn’t give the full perspective.

Around the final 10 laps, he was giving intense competition to Red Bull’s Alex Albon for the 4th position and was set to grab it. However, Albon managed to guard his position.

He was set to take the 5th position, but a peaceful lap by Norris during the final lap made him concede his 5th position too. But he managed to keep Daniel Ricciardo and Stroll away, who were at one time in the triple threat competition with Norris for the 6th.

Nevertheless, an impressive performance by Perez, who helped to gain crucial points for his team in the Styrian GP. It equals his career-best finish, which he managed in Australia in 2014, a P5 would have been even better, sigh.
