Fernando Alonso Handed Bad News on a Silver Plate by Aston Martin

Aston Martin have had a surprising downturn in form recently. At the start of the season, the team was fighting for podiums and now they are fighting just to get into the points. Fernando Alonso too had an incredible start to his life at Aston Martin as he secured five podiums in just his first six races for the team. However, a recent interview of Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack with speedcafe.com seems to suggest that the Spaniard may not achieve another podium for the rest of this season at least.

Despite the Silverstone-based outfit’s dip in form, Alonso does not seem too concerned. In an interview with motorsport.com, he said, “Obviously we dropped performance in the last few events. Yes, but not as bad as, again, the press conferences [questioning] seem to be. We’ve been four tenths from pole position last weekend, which is a mind-blowing performance after the 2022 campaign, but we’ve been eighth“.

After stating the same, Alonso then surprisingly added how the team’s recent struggles have been good for them. While the 42-year-old made it clear that he is not happy to be slow, he does believe that the recent struggles will help the team understand the car better and improve for the 2024 season. And Krack’s recent remarks do highlight that the team has been working tirelessly to improve their current situation.

Mike Krack believes Aston Martin is not anywhere close to a podium

In a recent interview with speedcafe.com, Mike Krack has provided some worrying remarks about Aston Martin‘s dip in performance. While the 51-year-old believes that his side has been working extremely hard to find solutions to their recent dip in performance, he believes they have not made significant progress in this area.

Working hard together, we can improve the car, but this is only the first step. We are still not anywhere near a podium finish. There is much more content we need,” he explained.

The last four races have been disappointing for the team as Fernando Alonso has had two fifth-place finishes, a seventh, and a ninth-place. Similarly, Lance Stroll too has struggled massively in the other Aston Martin.

The Canadian has had two ninth-place finishes, a tenth, and a 14th-place in his last four races. As a result, the 42-year-old Spaniard believes that his Aston Martin team needs a reset during the summer break to rediscover their form.

Fernando Alonso hopes Aston Martin can rediscover their form after the summer break

In another interview with motorsport.com, Fernando Alonso discussed how the 2023 season so far had panned out for Aston Martin and the other teams. He explained that while they did start the campaign on a high, their performances have recently suffered.

However, he did add that a similar kind of inconsistency in performances is also witnessed in rival teams. The Spaniard gave the example of McLaren and stated that even though the team did not had the best of the starts, they have been very impressive in some of the recent races that have high-speed corners.

It is for this reason, that Alonso believes that Aston Martin needs a reset during the summer break. The 42-year-old is hopeful that his team can find solutions to the problems that they have been facing on certain tracks.
