Fernando Alonso Hits Back at Journalist After Lewis Hamilton’s Brutal Roast Gets Brought Up in an Interview

The Canadian GP witnessed an intense battle between Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso for P2. Alonso started the Canadian GP in P2, followed by Hamilton in P3. The Spaniard had a very slow start to the race in comparison to Hamilton, and by the time they went into the first corner, the Briton was already ahead of Alonso.

However, Alonso made an incredible comeback by overtaking Hamilton on lap 23 to regain second place. The Aston Martin driver went on to hold his second position till the end of the race. Following the race, when a journalist recalled Alonso’s poor start to the race, the Spaniard hit back with a sharp retort.

After the race, while giving an interview to Viaplay, Hamilton joked about Alonso’s diminishing reflexes and made a funny remark about his age. The 41-year-old took it all in good fun and claimed that he would prove Hamilton wrong in two weeks’ time at the Austrian GP.

However, when Alonso was asked about his slow start during the post-race press conference, he was having none of it.

Fernando Alonso wants less media time

The post-race press conference was attended by all three podium finishers, Verstappen, Hamilton, and Alonso. One of the interviewers asked Alonso about what exactly happened at the very start of the race when he lost his P2 to Hamilton.

Alonso was quick to reply that he had no idea. He explained that the hectic procedures after the race did not allow him to get any time to debrief with the team about what exactly happened.

Alonso quipped, “Maybe we need to reduce the media time and give us a little bit of time with the engineers and maybe we come here with more info.” Alonso explained that he was yet to receive any information about both the slow start as well as the lift and coast that he had to do towards the end of the race.

When asked further if he was worried about his reaction time, Alonso replied sharply, “My reactions are still pretty good” with a huge grin on his face. Both Verstappen and Hamilton ended up laughing at the comment.

Canadian GP was 70 laps of Qualifying for Alonso

Alonso described how tough the race was for him from the very beginning. After losing out to Hamilton at the start, he thought that P2 was gone, and focused more on the drivers behind him.

Even after he managed to overtake Hamilton, Alonso claimed that he still could not rest one bit during the last 20 laps of the race when Hamilton started coming at him at full pace. He had to push to his limits throughout the race and described it as ’70 laps of Qualifying.’

Alonso currently stands P3 in the drivers’ championship with 117 points to his name. He is closely followed by Hamilton in P4, who has 102 points. With Alonso claiming that his battle with Hamilton will continue in Austria, it is expected that the battle will continue throughout the whole season.
