Ferrari Vs Mercedes F1: Why is 2020 Mercedes’ W11 is better than Ferrari’s STF1000, giving the German team another year for domination.
Mercedes is once again looking the strongest side after the two Grand Prix in Austria and now qualifying in Hungary. The car has secured 3 podiums out of possible.
Whereas, Lewis Hamilton who won the Styrian GP was showering all the praises to Mercedes’ W11 after winning his podium in Austria by claiming it to be the best car he drove.
“Firstly, I don’t think there’s ever been a car that I’ve driven that’s been easy to get into working,” said Hamilton. Because the conditions are always different, corners are always different. There are corners that it works well in, and corners that it doesn’t. And that never changes.”
On the other hand, Ferrari is having tough days on the track, with the Italian outfit not even completing the race last Sunday, one could give it as an unfortunate accident.
But the pace in Ferrari is certainly lacking while comparing to the other side. Both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc are doing poorly in the qualifying, they had their best qualifying result this season in Hungary after securing 5th and 6th position on the grid.
Courtesy to Leclerc, Ferrari managed a podium in the first race when he came second from the 7th position at the start. But why is it happening with Ferrari? A mega-giant in the sport.
Ferrari Vs Mercedes F1
Mercedes have been dominating Formula 1 since last 6 years and are continuing to do so, it’s lead driver Hamilton is on the verge of equalling Michael Schumacher’s championship record.
Whereas Ferrari who signed Vettel from Red Bull after seeing his 4 championship trophies aspired to lift the title once again after 2007. But it failed every time in the last 13 years.
The biggest reason for Mercedes’ dominance is that its Chassis and aerodynamics design is beyond match. Plus, they started their work on V6 engines much before it was instructed to be used.
Coming to 2020, More than Mercedes’ genius built, Ferrari is at fault, most likely their settlement with FIA last year propelled them to create an underwhelming STF1000.
According to the Reuters during the testing phase, Mattia Binotto told reporters he was less optimistic than last year when his team’s pace was evident to see. “The others are faster than us at the moment, I believe,” he said.
Meanwhile, one has to appreciate the W11 of Mercedes, as no car is even near to its design, the perfection of the car even allows the drivers to make a slight mistake.
It has also been noticed that Mercedes’ ERS is much better than anyone else giving them the ability to generate the highest pace on the straights enabling them to overtake, Valtteri Bottas Vs Max Verstappen in the Styrian Gp is the prime example.
So, when it comes to head-to-head with Mercedes and Ferrari, the Italian outfit is losing 0.7 of the second against their rivals on the straights, giving a huge advantage to the current champions.
