Red Bull has absolutely been crushing the opposition for a season and a half. While it might not look good for the viewers as a whole. But it’s certainly good for the sport and its development prowess, as per Formula 1 expert Chris Medland.
Medland, in his column with Motorsport Magazine, has revealed that the utter domination by the Austrian team is good for F1. Apart from terming it good, the F1 expert also emphasized that the sport needs such dominance from time to time.
He also said that the domination by a single team might be disappointing, but it opens up a sphere for other teams to follow. It opens up the chances of closing the differences in machinery and pushing the boundaries.

This follows by the sheer development of the challengers to be able to compete against the best. The F1 journalist then pointed out the way how different teams tried their way out to be competitive.
In 2021, it was Red Bull when they were finally a force to reckon with after half a decade of Silver Arrows’ dominance. It’s just a matter of time until teams like Ferrari, Mercedes, or Aston Martin get it right and the sport is fun again.
Why Red Bull dominance now could bring out a season like 2021?
After the new regulations were set out in 2022, it is now the Milton-Keynes-based team who got it absolutely right. Hence, they are dominating the sport with unbeatable Verstappen. Earlier, it was Mercedes in the post Hybrid era, from 2014 to 2020.
But in 2021, it was a two-headed battle all the way. Red Bull has begun to unsettle the dominance of Mercedes from the very first race in Bahrain. The battle was season-long where Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton had a wheel-to-wheel battle.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas were perfect supports in the wings. In the end, the Austrian team managed to win 11 races, as compared to the German’s nine. Red Bull took home the driver’s championship, whereas Mercedes settled with just the constructors.
This showed how the Milton-Keynes-based team was able to catch up to their Brackley opponents, slowly but eventually. And now, with the defending champions ruling the sport, there are higher chances that a repetition of 2021 is possible.
How dominant is Red Bull currently?
The Austrian team is giving one of the most dominant performances in the sport so far. Despite starting off slowly last year, Christian Horner’s team has taken everyone aback and crushed the opposition.
Adrian Newey and his team of engineers have built an absolute rocket ship, and Verstappen and Perez have used it to the maximum. In the process, they have picked up 17 wins, eight pole positions, and 28 podiums in the 2022 F1 season.
The showcase of power continued in 2023 as well. After the completion of just three races, Red Bull has a massive advantage in the constructors’ championship, as they have all of them.
