"He cannot be successful anymore"- Tom Coronel on Fernando Alonso's F1 return

“He cannot be successful anymore”- Tom Coronel predicts Fernando Alonso’s failure in Formula 1 as he is set to return with Alpine.

Fernando Alonso last raced in a Formula 1 car with McLaren, and since then, he has been away from this arena and plied his trade in America with the IndyCar.

To replace Daniel Ricciardo, Alpine offered Alonso a contract which he easily accepted. However, Tom Coronel predicts a failed F1 campaign for the 39-year-old.

“Alonso will wake up in 2021 and realize that everything is a dream. If it succeeds, I will be the first to celebrate it from the heart. But it will not happen because it is against nature,” he said to Formule1.nl.

“After leaving Formula 1, you are finished. When you are away for a year, you are already losing momentum. Alonso has been away for two years: so he cannot be successful anymore.

“Young people are more agile, bolder and more ambitious. Alonso is a warrior, but he is almost 40 years old,” he said.

Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton breakup are imminent.

Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, after a massive deadlock, managed to reach a conclusion for 2021, and Coronel predicts that soon the Briton will fall out of love with the Brackley based team.

“I’m sure he’s considering quitting. First and foremost, Lewis is a real racer. But this will be his hardest season ever, with 23 races. Every driver is tired of a long season.”

“The question is whether you want to live or be alive? Names like Lewis are kept alive. Personally, I am 48 years old, and if I can race somewhere, I’ll put everything aside for that. It doesn’t matter if it’s a wedding or a birthday.”

“But I can imagine that Hamilton will get tired of it with his eighth championship after his busiest year ever. With the eighth championship, you will no longer be Lewis Hamilton but a God. You can see that the side is not completely willing. Everything is actually straightforward: Mercedes no longer needs Hamilton.”

“There is no future for him out there except transferring a lot of money to his bank account. There are guys like Russell and Max; you can live with them for the next decade.”
