“He doesn’t play political games”- Sergio Perez believes Max Verstappen loves driving the car and out of the track he is a fun person.
Sergio Perez after performing impressively during the pre-season testing in Bahrain is all set to mark his impact in the 2021 for Red Bull along with his partner Max Verstappen.
Though at the same time, his biggest competition would be Max Verstappen, who has over the past couple of season have rose immensely to the prominence.
“Since I knew that I was coming to Red Bull, I also knew that I would have a big challenge with Max,” says the Mexican on the podcast ‘Beyond The Grid’ .
“But that’s what I wanted too. I want to measure myself against the best in sport.” And for him, Verstappen is part of that: “He’s a very complete driver,” he praised.
Despite joining forces, Perez has only seen Verstappen closely for only a limited period of time. Hence, he wants to avoid any comparison, but he totally belives that the Dutchman is a powerful competitor.
“I haven’t seen enough yet. He drove on a track that was ten, 15 degrees cooler – or vice versa. The wind has also changed. I think I’ll know more after the first three or four races,” he said. “But I can already see that he’s a quick and solid pilot.”
He doesn’t do politics
Perez then revealed that he is fond of Verstappen as a person, as out of the track he is a fun-loving person and doesn’t like to involve himself in politics.
“He doesn’t play political games. He just enjoys driving. We’ve had a lot of fun together these few days,” he says. “Max is just a young guy who enjoys life.”
Furthermore, he also stated that neither he or Verstappen has to be worried of each other, instead the Mexican claims that he already had an accomplished career.
“I don’t know why he should be worried about me or I should be worried about him. The way I see it, I have absolutely nothing to lose. I was fortunate enough to have a fantastic career. Whatever comes next is great.”
