"I had the ambition to win the title with Ferrari and we failed" - Sebastian Vettel looks back at his time at Ferrari as he prepares for Aston Martin next season

“I had the ambition to win the title with Ferrari and we failed” – Sebastian Vettel has drawn a comparison between Red Bull and Ferrari, calling them better in their own ways.

Sebastian Vettel is a legend of the sport and will go down in history as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time. But despite winning four world titles, the hunger to achieve success hasn’t died down in him. And this is the objective he will set out to achieve again when he joins the Aston Martin team.

When asked if his Ferrari journey went according to plan, he obviously replied in the negative. Vettel was brought in to win titles since Kimi Raikkonen last won it for them, but it was not to be. They got close on more than one occasion, but Mercedes ended up lifting the trophy eventually.

“Well, I had the ambition to win the title with Ferrari and we failed, so on that point, I will say no.”

Comparison between Red Bull and Ferrari?

Sebastian Vettel was asked to compare his two teams – Red Bull and Ferrari. He expectedly did a balancing act – calling both teams better than the other in their own way. But the bottom line, unfortunately, is that the German won 4 titles with Red and none with Ferrari, in spite of the latter having larger resources.

“Coming from Red Bull, I have discovered that Ferrari was doing some things better than them, but on some other things my former team was better.”

“Back in 2018, we were not that optimistic, because Mercedes had a very powerful engine but our car was good. And to be honest finishing 2nd in the Constructors Championship in that year was a nice reward.”
