“I think last year I proved a lot to myself mainly” – Lance Stroll proved a lot of critics wrong too in his Racing Point last season, as he looks forward to winning more silverware with Aston Martin Cognizant.
Lance Stroll has faced a lot of criticism for something that is not even his fault. He is the son of a billionaire Lawrence, who owned the Racing Point team, which is now Aston Martin Cognizant. The criticism was that he got his based on nepotism, and not on talent and skill.
What a year. It’s been a crazy ride but we can be proud of what we achieved together. Thanks to every single one of these guys and everybody back at the factory for making it possible. The best is yet to come 👊 pic.twitter.com/pepK1HagUy

But last season, he shocked one and all by taking two podiums in Italy and Sakhir and taking pole at Istanbul Park. This helped silence critics who wanted him to be replaced to get in Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin. Speaking to Motorsport.com, Lance Stroll spoke about how he proved himself that he worth the deal in Formula 1.
“I think last year I proved a lot to myself mainly. I just answered a lot of questions to myself that I’ve been asking myself in the last few seasons up until I had the opportunity to sit in a car that really performs.”
“Am I capable of delivering results? To finish up at the front? Am I capable of qualifying up at the front? You just don’t get those results. A lot of it also wasn’t all down to results, it was just like ‘what does a competitive car feel like?’ How much better is it?”
“[I didn’t know] until I sat in last year’s car and I realized how much of a difference there was, and how much I could also build on my driving being in a good car. One of the biggest advantages of being in a good car is what you can get out of yourself. It gives you so much more confidence driving the car. It allows you to attack the corners much harder and just push the car much harder.
