“I think we can give anybody a run for their money”- Lawrence Stroll on Aston Martin contention
“I think we can give anybody”- Lawrence Stroll on Aston Martin’s challenge to the bigger teams, as excitement looms around the new team.
Aston Martin being introduced as a Formula 1 team by Lawrence Stroll has definitely drawn heavy attention to the new franchise. The signing of Sebastian Vettel went onto be the icing of the cake for the team’s branding.
While talking about challenging the big guns, Lawrence Stroll feels that with new regulations stepping in Aston Martin will soon give any team run for their money.
“Do I think we can beat Mercedes? Certainly not next year. We’re all very big realists,” Stroll said to the RaceFans. “You know, with the new rule changes in 2022, we don’t know what they will mean exactly. The intent is to bring the field closer; will it succeed?
“If it succeeds, I think we can give anybody – not only Mercedes, it could be Red Bull, could be Ferrari – a run for their money,” the Canadian billionaire added.
The dark horses of 2021?
Aston Martin reportedly has good backing from Mercedes and considering the progressive reports of its predecessor- Racing Point, one from the rival team would be concerned about the prospect Aston Martin is encompassing.
Even in 2020, they were on the verge of ending 3rd in the constructors’ championship, until McLaren thwarted their hopes by giving magnificent performances, while luck didn’t favour Racing Point, and gave them damaging DNFs.
Yet, even the 4th finish by them above Renault and Ferrari is impressive and speaks volumes about what kind of potential they hold. So, it wouldn’t be wrong to claim them as the dark horses in 2021.
Meanwhile, the experience Vettel would be bringing to the side is going to be immeasurable, whenever the team would be in crucial stages from the next season onwards.
