“It was a disaster race for me” - Valtteri Bottas on spinning six times at Turkish Grand Prix

“It was a disaster race for me” – Valtteri Bottas spun a total of six times as he saw the race win and title go to Lewis Hamilton at the Turkish Grand Prix.

Valtteri Bottas arrived at Istanbul to prevent Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton from taking home his 7th world title. He couldn’t prevent that, as Hamilton won the race en route to the title.

But worse for the Finn, he spun six times to finish the race without a single point off it. It all started with incidents involving Renault’s Esteban Ocon on the opening lap.

“It was a disaster race for me.”

“Obviously I had the spin in the first corner when I was avoiding one of Renault’s spins. Then I had the collision in turn nine on the first lap. The car was not right after that.I could feel that the steering wheel was pointing to the left on the straight line and then in the left and right corners the car was behaving differently. It could be the most difficult race I’ve had in Formula 1 so far.”

Lewis Hamilton won the title with style – Valtteri Bottas

Bottas was all praise for his teammate, but seemed more critical about this race. Truth be told, though, there have been too many occasions where Hamilton has snatched victory under the noses of his teammate. Bottas now has a task in his hand has he bids to fight off Max Verstappen for the second spot on the Drivers’ Standings.

“He had a good race, he had a really solid race without mistakes. So I think for him it was a good race to win the title. But I wasn’t surprised, I knew that he would want to win the title with style.”
