“It Was About Lance”: Aston Martin Nepotism Debate Comes to an End As Billionaire Lawrence Stroll Brings Game-Changing Mantra to F1

Lawrence Stroll, the owner of the Aston Martin F1 team, has recently revealed that the ultimate goal of buying the Silverstone-based team was to take it to new heights. With this statement, the Canadian billionaire tried to put an end to the nepotism label that’s on his son, Lance Stroll.

It is believed, Stroll Jr, being the son of the team owner, has a seat reserved for him at Aston Martin. There’s also a longstanding joke that goes around the paddock that only Lance Stroll has a permanent contract in F1 and nobody else.

Despite putting up plenty of underwhelming performances over the last few years, the 24-year-old still has a seat. And that’s enough to convey the advantage he has over everyone else, thanks to his rich father.

Furthermore, this year’s performance when compared to Fernando Alonso highlights the dark reality even further. Alonso picked up five podiums in six races, and is P3 in the F1 world championships with 93 points.

He leads his teammate Stroll who just managed to pick up 27 points so far, despite having the same car. However, Stroll Sr.’s latest statements are surely a cool breeze in the hot allegations regarding favoritism in the Silverstone-based outfit.

Lawrence Stroll snubs the nepotism label on his son

Lawrence Stroll has recently revealed his plan for Aston Martin. He bought the team in 2018 when Force India went into administration, and rebranded it as Racing Point just a year later.

Stroll Sr. had a plan to make the team a world championship contender. From a team that was barely a midfield team, the British team is now in the same league as Mercedes and Ferrari. In fact, they have the potential to catch up with Red Bull in the near future.

As per Planet F1, Jenson Button said on this, ”Whatever the reasons that he came and bought that team, and a lot of it was all about Lance, that’s not it now.””

He [Lawrence Stroll] told me in Singapore last year, ‘mark my words within two years we’re going to be winning races. And the three years we’re going to be winning championships.” added the 2009 F1 world champion.

Stroll’s massive investment in Aston Martin F1 team

Even since the 63-year-old bought the team, it is believed he just wanted to keep on pushing ahead. And in doing so, Lawrence Stroll applied whatever effort seemed to have worked right for the team.

After hiring Sebastian Vettel and rebranding Racing Point to Aston Martin in 2021, the Canadian raised over $300 million for a state-of-the-art facility in Dadford, Silverstone, as per RaceFans.

Additionally, there will be two new buildings adjacent to the existing facility, that are under construction. They will be connected with a common walkway. One will have the team’s design, marketing departments, and manufacturing departments.

The other two will have a flow-imaging section area and a new wind tunnel featuring cutting-edge technology. This will be followed by the old building with a logistics department and staff housing facility.

It’s safe to say that Stroll’s plans for Aston Martin aren’t for the short term. With Alonso’s appointment and a fast car capable of finishing on the podium, things are looking bright for them.
