“It was even more complicated”– Nico Rosberg considers his rivalry with Lewis Hamilton to be more intense and complicated than Max Verstappen’s.
Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton might have given a headache to Toto Wolff in 2016. Still, it was surely the best of times for Formula 1 fans, as the sheer competitiveness between the two peaked and gave an iconic title race.
Something similar is happening this year, where Max Verstappen has turned out to challenge Hamilton’s hegemony after a gap of four years, which obviously Rosberg did.

But the former Mercedes superstar opines that his rivalry with Hamilton was more complicated than Verstappen dealing with the seven-time world champion.
“Wheel-to-wheel racing, and especially also with Lewis, so yes it did, it did remind me a little bit [of that accident],” told the Express. “But I think in my time it was even more complicated because it’s within the same team.”
“So at least here you have the whole team behind Verstappen, the whole team behind Lewis, and then it’s the team against team and that does make it a little bit different.”
The clash of generations
After the British Grand Prix, the difference between the two is only eight points, intensifying the world championship race, and for Rosberg, this is the clash of generations.
“I mean it’s for us fans watching F1, especially once we all saw that he [Verstappen] was not injured [at Silverstone], and from beyond that then it’s just a fantastic battle to follow this, this battle of the generations,” said Rosberg.
“Kind of the star of this generation, against the star of the next generation, is really so, so great fun to watch,” he concluded. Next up, the two drivers are set to face each other in Hungary.
