"It's a Bit of a Shame for the Sport": George Russell Can't Offer Anything But Sympathy for Formula 1 Amidst Red Bull's Endless Dominance

On Sunday, Red Bull won yet another race! The initial prediction of George Russell, saying they will win every race this year, is slowly becoming true. And amidst the dominance of the Milton-Keynes-based team, Russell can’t offer anything but sympathy to the sport.

The Mercedes star was asked about how far Red Bull was against others during the Miami Grand Prix race. Russell had a very stoic response while agreeing to the Red Bull supremacy.

“I wasn’t really surprised, no. That’s where they are in the minute. I said at the start of the season. They are so far ahead. They got it easy at the moment. I wonder if they are running at full power. So, it’s bit of a shame for the sport,” said Russell in F1’s post-race show.

Only one team is ahead! Mercedes far away

The championship this season is definitely a one-way street. Red Bull has the perfect record of five wins out of the five races this season, and their supremacy doesn’t hint at anyone getting close enough even to clinch a win.

Therefore, the title fight has only been reduced to a battle between the teammates of one team. Over here also, Verstappen showed incredible performance and outclassed his Sergio Perez without any major trouble.

So, in all fairness, this season is easily getting into the hands of Verstappen with little challenge. Even in the constructors’ championship, Red Bull boasts a lead of 122 against the second-placed Aston Martin, and only five races have happened! The level of dominance is unreal.

George Russell can’t wait for the upgrades

While Red Bull seems to be untouchable, Mercedes are now way in the position of challenging them from their current position. However, what they can do is target the P2 position.

The trio of Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Mercedes are heading toward a tense triple-threat match for the runner-up position in the standings. To achieve their objective of being the second-best team, the Silver Arrows have called for updates in Imola.

Russell, in his post-race interview, expressed his desire to have them as soon as possible so that there is a performance improvement. But would that bring an overnight change and make them the next best on the grid? That remains to be seen.
