Kimi Raikkonen: Alfa Romeo's Antonio Giovinazzi heaps praise on legendary teammate

Kimi Raikkonen: Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi has paid tribute to his legendary teammate, calling him one of the best in the current grid.

It must be quite overwhelming to be ‘Ice Man’ Kimi Raikkonen’s teammate. The current one, Italian Antonio Giovinazzi, admits to that but seems in awe of the genius the Finn is. It would be an understatement to say, Raikkonen, considering what he has achieved in the sport. The title he won with Ferrari is the icing on the cake of an illustrious career.

“With Kimi, I think in every race, you have pressure because with the experience he has he puts it together every weekend and it is difficult to beat him or to be in front of him. As I say, I think Kimi is still a really strong driver, a really fast driver, and maybe one of the best on this grid and if you want to beat him you need to put it all together.”

Giovinazzi still feels the pressure

Despite both Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi extending contracts with Alfa Romeo, the latter admits he still feels the pressure to prove himself. Alfa Romeo has not touched the heights of last season, but have looked stronger compared to direct competitors Williams and Haas.

“So in every race, there is pressure there. I think mentally it makes a difference (signing a contract) but (overall) I don’t think so. When you sign a contract you just feel more relaxed but it doesn’t change my quality of driving.”

Before you go: Kimi Raikkonen watches insane Portuguese GP first lap with his son, as fellow drivers rave about it.
