Lando Norris optimistic of McLaren beating Ferrari in the team standings this season

Lando Norris sounds optimistic in beating Ferrari in the final team standings of the season after the British team made impactful start.

McLaren are currently third in the standings with 41 points. They lead Ferrari by 14 points, who are 5th on the table. Both the teams have been on the podium once this season when Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris finished second and third respectively at the Austrian Grand Prix.

This has given an opportunity to the forever cheeky Norris to take a swipe on his teammate Carlos Sainz. Sainz is going to make the move to Ferrari for the 2021 season. But with Ferrari under-performing, there are suggestions Sainz could be ‘regretting’ his dream move.

Lando Norris had this to say to Reuters on his teammate’s impending move. He however expressed caution that Ferrari is a team not to be underestimated, and things could change very quickly.

“There have been jokes made, but nothing which is rubbing it in. I know how karma works and how easily things can go the opposite way.” said Norris.

“We’re going to go to some races this season where Ferrari will beat us quite easily and Carlos will be the one saying ‘Look who’s laughing now’”.

“I know that Formula One can change and they will probably do a very good job to return back to their normal ways of being very competitive.”

McLaren can beat Ferrari this season

Notwithstanding, Lando enthused that McLaren have a golden chance of beating this season. McLaren have been consistent this season; Ferrari have been anything but that.

This has led the Red outfit to announce a shake-up in their technical department. As a result, a new Performance Development wing has been created at Ferrari, to turn their fortunes around.

“We have an opportunity to beat Ferrari”, Lando feels. We have an opportunity to fight them throughout the season. I think it would mean a lot to us as a team to take the next step and beat a team that’s been front-running for a few years,”

“For many years, to show the progress we have made. It would give us a bit more of that drive to continue on and beat them into the future.”
