F1 has been so disconnected from the American culture that it’s rare to see the Euro-centric sport feature in anything American. While Lewis Hamilton was the first to bridge that gap, The Drive to Survive effect can’t be ignored. Thus, the Miami GP is filled with celebrities that have been attracted to the world of F1. One common face in this A-list has been rapper will.i.am, who has now collaborated with Lil Wayne for an absolute banger.
will.i.am has been a frequent face in the F1 paddock in the past, and it looks like he’s convinced Lil Wayne to do so. In a new song titled ‘The Formula”, the lyrics are loaded with F1 references and are all about the high-speed life.
While will.i.am took over the majority of the song, it was the ‘A Milli rapper who stole the show. With bars honoring Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen- it’s no surprise that the two champions have had an impact on its newer audience.
Lil Wayne nods at Hamilton’s impeccable style with the lyrics, “Got ’em braided like Lewis/ Got a Mercedes like Lewis” A fitting name-drop on an F1-themed track, Hamilton is the face of the sport. It would’ve been incomplete without it.
Hamilton’s rival shares his spotlight too. Wayne also hypes up Max Verstappen with some heavy bars. “Drivin’ like Max Verstappen/ This my world, I’m your champion.”
It’s safe to say that this was a pleasant surprise to fans- both from the world of rap and F1. A collaboration between the two rappers has been a long-awaited moment, and to top it off, dropping an F1 song during the Miami GP weekend. Genius.
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen fans agree on one thing
As the song made its big release today, both Team LH44 and the Orange Army bopped along to the lyrical masterpiece. Fans from both camps were hyped to hear their champion’s name, and in a rare moment for F1 Twitter, there was no hate on either side. Wayne truly did the impossible as a fan rightly tagged his verse “a certified banger”

Verstappen fans agreed with his description of the Dutch Lion.
I ain't in the latest, I'm in the newest
And if I ain't the greatest, tell me, who is?
No cappin', do the dash, no toe-tappin'

Drivin' like Max Verstappen

The two icons of the music industry have truly done the impossible in getting the two enemy camps to agree on something. While the rivalry runs free on the track and will continue to do so this Miami GP, its a refreshing change from heaty words to a rhythmic agreement. Music really does unite, then?
