Lewis Hamilton Changes the Life of Canadian Teenager With $672,000 Sale of Rare Collectible

Lewis Hamilton, who is one of the most famous personalities inside and outside the world of F1, recently changed the life of a Canadian teenager. Jean-Nicolas Gagnon found a limited edition Hamilton card, which he was able to sell for a whopping $672,000.

As reported by CTV News Montreal, 16-year-old Gagnon pulled out a ‘one of a kind’ Lewis Hamilton trading card from a packet that cost just $37. The card that was being mentioned is a “2020 Topps Chrome F1 Superfractor 1/1 Lewis Hamilton card”. It is also mentioned that this is the only card of this sort in existence.

In Netflix’s show, King of Collectibles, an episode titled ‘The Goldin Touch’ features Gagnon and his dad, who reveal their possession of this particular card. In itself, the card is valuable, because it is limited edition, but the asking price increased because of a very special element added- Hamilton’s signature.

The director of the show, Carlo Civitella admitted that when he heard about a buyer being interested to buy the card for $560,000, he was shocked. He never thought that a collectible card -no matter how rare- could be sold for such a price. However, what happened next was even more staggering.

$670,000 for a signed Lewis Hamilton collectible card

Hamilton is arguably the most popular F1 driver in the world, and even people who don’t particularly follow the sport, know about him. Other than his brilliant driving, the 38-year-old has been involved in several other ventures, especially in the fashion industry, which would explain why he is close to so many famous celebrities around the world.

Civitella, who was shocked at the card being priced at $560,000 was even more surprised when he saw how much it actually got sold for. The card was put up for sale on Goldin’s Auction Site, and it’s sale smashed all records as it ended up being sold for $670,000.

Gagnon’s father, was flabbergasted at the amount and said-

“When I heard that amount, I almost fell backwards. I never thought a little piece of cardboard could be worth that much.”

Hamilton and Co. looking forward to upgrades in Imola

Hamilton’s popularity off the track just made a Canadian family $670,000 richer. But back in F1, Hamilton will be hoping for some good fortune of his own, as the Brit looks forward to bouncing back the Emilia-Romagna GP weekend.

Mercedes are set to bring in upgrades to Imola, that they expect will improve the W14’s pace. Hamilton has not won an F1 race since the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP, and winning one in the near future looks difficult because of Red Bull’s dominance. Nevertheless, he will be hoping to push for the podium places and close the gap to Aston Martin the championship standings.
