Lewis Hamilton defeats Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna claims this all-time record

Lewis Hamilton has his name etched in almost every record book in F1. From most race wins, pole positions, championships, and race wins at a circuit, you name the record and Lewis would be at the very top or very close to it.

Hamilton has been racing in F1 since 2007. In 2022, the 7-time World Champion completed 15 years in the sport.

Yet some F1 purists dare to mention Hamilton at the same level as GOATs like Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna. But the record books show that the Briton has surpassed the two to become the best driver based on the All-Time F1 Championship results

Lewis Hamilton leads Michael Schumacher in All time F1 record

“Lewis Hamilton or Michael Schumacher” F1 fans have long debated which driver gets to keep the title for being the greatest driver. The duo are tied with 7 Championship titles, but Lewis leads the record books for race wins.

Hamilton did have the advantage of racing in more races. But if you consider their championship standings alone, then Lewis leads the German driver by a slight margin.

The All-Time F1 Championship results categorise the drivers based on the position they finished in every season they competed in. The position is then scored using the current race scoring system i.e. 25, 18, 15, 12, etc.

So a driver who finished 1st claims 25 points, the runner-up claims 18 and so on. Based on this metric, Hamilton has long overtaken Michael Schumacher from the top spot.

4-time World Champion Alain Prost takes 3rd place. Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, and Ayrton Senna take the top 7 spots.

This might not be enough to settle the F1 GOAT debate yet. But it just shows you how much success Lewis has enjoyed in the sport.

Poor 2022 doesn’t hurt Hamilton’s impressive record

Lewis Hamilton has a regular record of finishing at the top. But 2022 did not go his way. The Briton suffered a poor season after Mercedes failed to produce a race-winning car for the Briton.

He registered his first winless season in F1 since debuting in the sport. But despite his 6th place finish in 2022, Hamilton will be looking to pounce back in 2023.

His Mercedes teammate George Russell is the newest entrant on the list. With his consistent results in 2022 and the team’s solo win in Brazil, Russell finished 4th in his first season with Mercedes

Hamilton’s arch-nemesis Max Verstappen made the biggest jump in the list. By winning his 2nd Championship, Max jumped 9 places to 21st place, ahead of 2009 champion Jenson Button and former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas.

The highest-placed non-championship-winning driver is Schumacher’s former teammate Rubens Barrichello. And 5-time F1 Champion Fangio still holds the 8th place on the list despite retiring from the sport in 1958.
