Lewis Hamilton Who Has Eco-Friendly Ideals Once Shunned Formula E With 'No Interest Whatsoever' Comment

Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has been quite outspoken about climate change and the need for human beings to be more careful about using resources.

Back in 2019, he released a series of posts on his Instagram page talking about the state of the planet. He even said that it has left him feeling like “giving up on everything.”

Formula E driver Jean-Eric Vergne had said at the time that the E-series would be a perfect fit for the Briton. Because it helps fight against climate change and promotes electric vehicles.

Hamilton shunned the idea of ever participating in Formula E despite his concerns for the environment.

Why did Lewis Hamilton refuse to race in Formula E?

Autosport had asked Hamilton at the time after his strong comments on his social media about his opinion on moving to Formula E to reduce his carbon footprints.

Hamilton had rejected the idea saying he has “no interest whatsoever” in participating in the all-electric series. He further said that it is not something he is planning to do beyond F1.

The comments made by the Mercedes star were faced with massive criticism. People labelled him as a hypocrite for spreading his eco-friendly ideals while driving in F1 himself.

Speaking about those criticisms, Hamilton said that he is aware of the carbon footprint he leaves by racing in F1. It is difficult for the public to reconcile with him.

But, anyways it should not stop one from divulging his views on his own social media platforms.

Sebastian Vettel supported Hamilton’s views

Alongside Hamilton is the 4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel who raises concerns about the environmental and societal issues in the world.

The German driver agreed with Hamilton on his comments about the criticisms he received. He said that it is very difficult to get acceptance from the outside since F1 drivers also have a huge carbon footprint.

In his opinion, because F1 is such a massive platform, they should do more in disseminating awareness and when everyone will contribute even a little bit, it will make a huge difference.
