Max Verstappen Called Out for Hypocrisy as Red Bull Boss Exposes Real Side of F1 Champion

Max Verstappen has often revealed that he does not care about records or breaking them. He races because he loves the sport and enjoys what he does. However, that might not be true as Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has something to say on this.

Even since Verstappen arrived in Formula 1, it was clear that he was destined for greatness. From debuting at the age of 17 to claiming his first win at the age of 18 in the very first race for Red Bull, the Dutchman showed signs of what was to come.

Verstappen was said to win the championship and in the 2021 F1 season, he picked up his first-ever world championship. Now, he is on his way to pick the third this season. In the process, he has shattered several records like maximum race wins in a season, most points in a season, the youngest driver to win a race, and many others.

Verstappen has often claimed that he doesn’t care much about these records and only focuses on winning. However, Helmut Marko has to say otherwise.

Helmut Marko reveals Verstappen’s other side

The Red Bull taskmaster has recently opened up on if Verstappen is fond of records, unlike how he portrays himself in front of the media.

Speaking about this, the 80-year-old said as per Motorsport Netherlands, “Max always says that he does not care about records. But if you ask him, for example, who has the most poles and how many those are, then he knows it right away.”

Amid all this, Verstappen broke the record of Sebastian Vettel’s wins record at Red Bull and surpassed Ayrton Senna’s all-time wins with his latest win in Austria.

Marko is full-on Max Verstappen appraisal

The 25-year-old has been incredibly dominant this season. With seven wins in nine races picked up already, the Dutch driver built a massive gap in the driver’s championship.

The gap is so big that his point haul is even more than the points of Constructors in P2, and six bottom teams combined. This is huge as Constructors have two drivers and Verstappen’s point alone is more than their combined two. As the two-time world champion has been phenomenal, Marko wants this to continue.

On this, he further asserted, “Of course, we want to win as many races as possible again this year, but first let’s secure the championship. That is the most important thing.”

If the Dutchman manages to claim his third world championship, he will be in the elite league with Ayrton Senna once again. And with the dominance Red Bull showing, the RB-19 and its successor are expected to take Max Verstappen third in all times wins by next season.
