Max Verstappen Willing to Sacrifice Phenomenal F1 Run For One Man and One Man Only

Max Verstappen has had a dream start to the 2023 season. The Dutch driver has racked up wins in 5 out of the 7 races held so far. With how things stand now, it does not seem like any driver can catch up with Verstappen. However, Verstappen has revealed that he will be willing to give up a race win for only one driver on the grid.

There are many drivers who would give anything to be in Verstappen’s place currently. His own teammate Sergio Perez managed to secure two victories before having a recent drop in his performance. On the other hand, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are still struggling to get their Ferrari into grips.

As for Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, they are slowly but surely closing the gap to Verstappen but still have a long way to go. Even after their scintillating performance in Spain, the Mercedes crossed the checkered flag 23 seconds after the untouchable Max Verstappen. This only goes on to show how dominant the Red Bull can be.

Max Verstappen names the person to whom he would want to give away his win

With Formula 1 racing in Montreal this weekend for the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen was asked by the media if there was anyone else other than himself that he would like to see on the top step of the podium. The Red Bull driver did not hesitate one bit and answered, “Fernando [Alonso]

Max Verstappen then explained, “I like him. He’s a real driver, he deserves it, he never gives up, you can see that.” The Dutchman went on and said that Alonso is an ‘Animal’ who was stuck in a midfield car for all these years.

If you ask me for a driver who wants me to win a race this year, it’s Fernando,” said Verstappen. It is very evident that Verstappen has immense respect for the Spaniard and he realizes how great a driver Alonso is.

Alonso would need Verstappen’s help

This is not the first time that Verstappen has hinted at his desire to see Alonso win a race this season. The Dutch racer had made a similar statement during the Monaco GP.

After Qualifying on the front row alongside Verstappen, Alonso commented that he would need Verstappen’s help to win the race. The reporters then asked Verstappen if he would like to help the Spaniard. He replied with a huge smile,” I like to see Fernando win, I also like to see myself win. It’s a tough one. I’ll think about it.”

Verstappen and Alonso have developed a very close relationship in the last few months, mostly owing to the fact that they shared 5 podiums with each other this year.
