As per the latest development, the hometown of legendary F1 driver Michael Schumacher is reportedly set to be abolished and turned into a coal mine. Even though Schumacher’s town of Kerpen-Manheim is an extremely small village in Germany, it will forever be remembered as the land where one of F1’s finest ever drivers came from.
From making his debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, Schumacher made 308 GP entries and won 91 races. Moreover, he clinched a whopping 155 podiums and also holds a joint record of winning seven world titles. The only other driver to have achieved this feat in F1 history is current Mercedes racer, Lewis Hamilton.
Michael Schumacher’s hometown awaits demolition
According to a report put out by gpfans.com, Michael Schumacher’s hometown of Kerpen-Manheim awaits demolition. The town where just 12 residents reside will make way for the country’s largest open-pit coal mine. While most of the town will be demolished, the report adds that few places will remain as it is.
These include Schumacher’s childhood home and the go-kart track where he developed his skills. Kerpen-Manheim also holds all the more value in Schumacher’s life as this is the village where he married his wife, Corinna, back in 1995. As per the report, the excavators will being their work in 2024.

Ralf Schumacher opens up on memories of his hometown
Ralf Schumacher, the younger brother of Michael, has recently opened up about the memories he has of his hometown. In a conversation with Auto Bild, the 47-year-old said, “Thanks to the Greens [political party], my entire hometown didn’t fall victim to lignite mining after all”.
Ralf added that since he grew up with a lot of animals, he also restored his parents’ childhood home to the way it used to be. After speaking of his home, Ralf concluded his remarks by stating that he was grateful that the plans did not include the demolition of the go-kart track.
Michael Schumacher’s latest health update
Because of the nature of Michael Schumacher‘s condition, not much information is available to the public about his health. The only individual who often provides updates about the 54-year-old’s health is Jean Todt, who shares a fantastic relationship with the Schumacher family.
The last update that Todt gave about Michael’s health was that he’s still recovering but is able to watch races. Since this update, Todt too has not revealed much about the seven-time world champion’s health. He has made it clear that everyone must respect the privacy of the Schumacher family.
In his conversation with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera a few months ago, Todt said, “Let’s leave him alone. We respect the privacy wishes of Corinna and her children, although we know of course that the accident had consequences. But anyone who says he knows something, knows nothing”.
