"Poor Thing": Pierre Gasly Tries to Instigate Furious Altercation With Carlos Sainz After Their British GP Drama

Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz had a battle in the midfield at the British GP which the former didn’t appreciate. After the race, he interrupted Carlos Sainz during his interview and instigated an altercation, which the Spaniard shrugged off with a cold reply to the Alpine driver.

Sainz was incredibly unlucky with Ferrari’s strategy and timing at the British GP in Silverstone. He pitted for harder tires, which was incredibly ill-timed as a late-race safety car prompted most of the other drivers to pit for softer tires. This saw him tumble down the order, and fight for the last few points places, in what could have been a strong weekend for him.

During one of his battles, he came together with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly. However, Sainz, who was racing hard, seemed to take Gasly by surprise, who lost out on his position as a result. The Frenchman was adamant that Sainz tried to push him off the track in a very dangerous part of the circuit. The race officials, however, didn’t seem to agree with Gasly. That didn’t stop him from trying to start a verbal dialogue with Sainz by provoking him during the latter’s post-race interview.

Pierre Gasly tries to provoke Carlos Sainz

Sainz was talking to the Spanish press including DAZN after the race when Gasly passed him in the paddock. Instead of ignoring the Ferrari driver, Gasly went on the angrily pat him on the back, which Sainz obviously noticed. It was evident that he didn’t appreciate the shove, but Sainz kept his composure and shrugged it off.

The 28-year-old simply started talking to the press again, but not before sarcastically calling Gasly “Pobrecito” which is Spanish for “Poor Thing”. Of course, this was Sainz’s way of mocking the Alpine driver, and remaining firm on his stance that he was innocent.

Despite Gasly’s annoyance and complains, the race officials didn’t seem to think that Sainz’s move was unfair. However, later in the race, another driver did get penalized for his on-track clash with Gasly. This was Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, who collided with the Alpine of Gasly. This took him out of the race, and subsequently handed the Canadian driver a five-second time penalty.

Disappointment for Sainz and Ferrari

Sainz and Ferrari headed into the British GP with strong hopes of securing a podium finish, after their strong display in Austria last week. Unfortunately, McLaren’s rapid development caught them napping, as they outqualified both Sainz and Leclerc.

Furthermore, their race-pace was not as quick as the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri either, which added to their immense bad luck with the safety car. In the end, Charles Leclerc finished P9, just ahead of Sainz in P10. An overall underwhelming weekend for the Maranello-based outfit.
