"Red Bull is a very important brand for Formula 1"- Toto Wolff on saving Red Bull amidst power unit issue

“Red Bull is a very important brand for Formula 1”- Toto Wolff backs preservation of Red Bull in F1 amidst power unit uncertainty.

Red Bull is facing huge disarray in solving their power unit problem with the sure exit of Honda after the end of 2021 season. With a limited number of solutions and much at stake Red Bull has even warned F1 of their exit.

It could not be zeroed down to be blackmail but a genuine concern as creating a power unit is an expensive task and Red Bull not being a manufacturer realizes it.

On the other hand, Toto Wolff has also come on to support Red Bull in their plight and have expressed that the Austrian team is a crucial part of the sport, hence shall be protected.

It seems Honda has done a good job in bringing updates to the power unit. There is some good stuff in the pipeline, and they’re still going to be around next year, giving it all to be successful in the championship”, he says on Motorsport.com.

“In the mid-term, we are going to innovate, all of us, to work on a new engine concept that could be introduced as early as 2024 or2025. That’s where the attention of all of us is going to shift”, said the Mercedes team boss.

No option to partner with Renault

Despite, Ferrari and Mercedes unofficially denying the engine assistance to Red Bull, Renault is still there to solve their problems, but it is a toxic relationship which Red Bull doesn’t want to go through again, and Wolff understands this.

“And I understand that they don’t want to go into a spending war with the other manufacturers.” Whatever happens with the engines, Wolff believes that Red Bull should remain in Formula 1.

“Red Bull is a very important brand for Formula 1, and we should do everything to keep the two teams in Formula 1.” he concluded.
