Sergio Perez suffered a woeful Saturday in Monaco, after crashing out in Q1. He will start Sunday’s Monaco GP from P20, and fans can’t help but remind the Mexican driver of his shenanigans from last year’s outings. On Twitter, Perez was slandered by the community with “Karma” comments all over.
After the Mexican driver crashed out in Q1, fans on Twitter started giving him a very hard time. His teammate Max Verstappen’s pole position further added to his already miserable afternoon in the Principality.
Last year, during Q3 at the Monaco GP qualifying, Checo crashed his car right before entering the tunnel section. The incident jeopardized his chance but ended up affecting Verstappen even more. Both Red Bull cars lost out on the front row. Ferrari ended up taking a 1-2 in Monaco in 2022.
Admittedly, the repercussions of this were seen in Interlagos last year. Verstappen, who had already won the world championship, denied letting Perez through to help him get P2 in the driver’s championship.
Furthermore, many claimed that the 33-year-old deliberately crashed to stay in front of his teammate. It played out in the Guadalajara-born driver’s favor in the end, as he took the victory last year in Monaco, a track that is very difficult to overtake on.
Fans bring out “Karma” on social media after Sergio Perez crashed
After Sergio Perez crashed, a part of the fanbase was quick to take the social media to vent out their thoughts. Many claimed that Perez was destined to crash unintentionally in Monaco after all that happened in 2022.
A fan named Adriano posted about Karma finally catching up with Perez.

Max Verstappen shines in Perez’s misfortunes
Verstappen, started last year’s race from P4 and was only able to make up one place, as he ended up finishing third. This time, however, he has a golden chance to get his first Monaco GP win since 2021. The 25-year-old will start the race from the pole position, ahead of Fernando Alonso.
After fending off Charles Leclerc, Esteban Ocon, and Alonso, the Dutchman pulled the rabbit out of the hat in the last sector to start Sunday’s race in pole position.
As for Sergio Perez, who started last year’s race in P3 and claimed the win, will start from P20. As things stand, this is a huge blow for the Mexican in his potential title fight with his teammate, Max Verstappen.
