"Should Be Banned": What Happened Between Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz?

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was left fuming after Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz seemingly impeded him towards the end of the first qualifying session of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Frenchman voiced his frustrations on the team radio after the incident.

While speaking on his radio, Gasly screamed, “[He] should be banned for such a thing! I am coming at 300! What the f*** do they think”?! It will now be interesting to see whether Sainz receives a penalty for the incident or not.

What happened between Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz?

Towards the end of the first qualifying session, several drivers were attempting to cross the start-finish line to start their final flying lap. Since multiple drivers were attempting to do so, there was a lot of traffic.

And amidst this traffic, Carlos Sainz did not realize that a fast-moving Pierre Gasly was approaching. The Frenchman, who was on a flyer, clearly seemed to be impeded by the Spaniard.

Hence, it is most likely that Sainz may receive a penalty for the same. If the 28-year-old does receive a penalty, then he would drop down further from eighth, the spot where he qualified. As for Gasly, he would start all the way down in 17th after failing to finish his final flying lap.

I’m just sick“: Gasly explains his frustration in his interview

Pierre Gasly’s frustrations just did not end on the team radio as he slammed Carlos Sainz even further in his post-qualifying interview. The Frenchman stated how he was “absolutely disgusted” with how the qualifying session panned out.

He made it clear that what Sainz did on the track was “extremely dangerous“. Gasly added that since this isn’t the first time that Sainz has had such a moment, he is “completely disgusted“. Gasly then added that his lap should have undoubtedly put him in the top six and comfortably out of Q1.

He then ended his reply by stating, “It worked well all weekend and it’s ruining us. It is ruining qualifying, so right now I’m just sick of it“. With Gasly now far from happy, it will be interesting to see what Sainz makes of the incident.
