"That's Why I keep Racing": Fernando Alonso Confirms His Challenge for 3rd F1 Title Amidst Max Verstappen Dominance

Fernando Alonso is seeing his Formula 1 resurgence with Aston Martin. This year, the Silverstone-based team has given him a capable car that enabled him to win three podiums in a row, and he aims for a win after 10 years.

However, despite being arguably the second-fastest team on the grid, Aston Martin is still not capable enough to dethrone Red Bull from the championship lead. But it hasn’t demotivated Alonso about aiming for another championship win.

The Spaniard last won a championship in 2006, and since then, he has come close to winning it again but failed on every occasion. But for a decade, he hasn’t contested for it, but his new team has given him hope at 41.

Fernando Alonso claims he is challenging for the championship

Lawrence Stroll’s Aston Martin project envisions a championship win. And Alonso is here for this task only. He responded with an affirmative when asked whether a third title for him is possible in the future.

“I believe it’s possible. That’s why I keep racing, obviously,” said Alonso. “You know the challenge is big. You need to overcome some difficulties and some top teams. But yeah, I race and train every day, thinking that the third title is possible.”

While Alonso is ambitious, he is realistic too. He admits that this year is not the right time to expect a title from Aston Martin, as the team is still growing. He adds that before running, the team must first learn to walk. And that is what they are doing while Red Bull dominates the season so far.

Next year a challenge to Max Verstappen?

The rapid progress shown by Aston Martin is surely a good sign ahead of the next season for the team. While Red Bull with Max Verstappen is likely to continue with its form even next year, Alonso’s team would be expected to come with an upgraded challenge.

And over there, the 41-year-old race driver’s skills on the wheel would be handy. But would that generate a genuine chance at the title? That could only be known in 2024.

Nevertheless, Alonso and the Stroll father-son duo would expect a title-contending car from their engineers next year. Rest is upon the brilliance on the track.
