“That is the attraction” – Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel reveals what makes him stand out in the rain
“That is the attraction” – Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has revealed what makes him stand out in the rain, after his brilliant podium finish at the Turkish Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel has had a troubling 2020 season, his last with Ferrari. He has often been seen struggling with the pace and control of the SF1000. But at Istanbul Park for the Turkish Grand Prix, the four-time champion rose from the ashes figuratively and took a brilliant first podium of the season.
Sebastian Vettel – Master of the Rain
It was a rain-drenched affair, and therefore it was no surprise to see three seasoned drivers on the podium – Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez, and Vettel. When asked what led to him performing so admirably in the rain, the German chose to give a technical reason.
“When visibility becomes worse due to the spray, the reference points that you have memorized, such as signs or trees, become blurred. I follow my feeling much more when I have to brake or turn in. On a dry route, there is usually only one line that is fast.”

He also spoke about feeling at home in the cockpit. Ironically, that is something we have not seen too often with him at Ferrari this season. His partner Charles Leclerc has been, though, and big things are expected from him and Carlos Sainz when they team up next season. Likewise, Vettel would want to start his Aston Martin campaign on a high.
“In the rain, three or five lines can be considered, you have to try them out and then decide based on your feelings which is the better. That is the attraction. And you can only really blossom in the rain if you feel at home in the cockpit, i.e. trust the car enough to start playing.”
