"They will form a strong team"– Toto Wolff is confident that with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, Mercedes will be a great ensemble

“They will form a strong team”– Toto Wolff expects great teamwork between George Russell and Lewis Hamilton as Mercedes heads to the future.

Lewis Hamilton will no more be pairing with Valtteri Bottas from 2022 onwards, as Mercedes announced George Russell’s arrival for the next season on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Bottas is heading to Alfa Romeo. Amidst this, Toto Wolff claims that Russell and Hamilton will make a great team and a force to reckon with.

“Looking forward to 2022, we are very happy to confirm that George will have the opportunity to take the next step in his career and join Mercedes,” Wolff stated after the announcement.

“He has been a winner in every racing category – and the past three seasons with Williams have given us a taste of what the future could hold for him in F1.”

“Now, it is our challenge together to help him continue learning within our environment and alongside Lewis, the greatest F1 driver of all time.”

“I am confident that as their relationship grows, they will form a strong team and deliver for Mercedes on and off the track in the years ahead.”

A huge weight has been lifted

Wolff confessed that a huge burden had been shelved with the recent series of announcements, and now his team can focus on the remainder of the 2021 season, where they are vying for the title against their arch-rivals– Red Bull.

“It’s a weight off our shoulders to have our plans for 2022 clear and announced; but now, our focus returns to the final nine races of this season and putting everything into our challenge for this year’s world championships,” Wolff concluded.

Despite Max Verstappen’s win in the Dutch Grand Prix, Mercedes had a bigger haul and led the constructors’ championship by 12 points, which Red Bull aims to overcome in the upcoming races.
