"This is not against Mercedes" - Timo Glock wants Red Bull to take the fight to Mercedes

“This is not against Mercedes” – Former Toyota driver Timo Glock wants Red Bull to take the fight against Mercedes this season.

Max Verstappen almost won the season-opener at Bahrain, if not for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s sheer brilliance. For a neutral like Timo Glock, it was a treat, though, and the former F1 driver wants more of the same from the Milton Keynes outfit.

More than that, he hopes Mercedes do not figure out their car completely and make it a one-horse race, yet again. There’s hope against hope that Red Bull can take the fight to Mercedes and claim a shock 5th world title, and their very first one without Sebastian Vettel.

“It was nice to see that Red Bull and Mercedes are on an equal footing, or that Red Bull is even one step ahead. But Mercedes, with a very aggressive strategy and an incredibly good Lewis Hamilton, who has mastered the subject of tyre management well, are hoping for an exciting season.

“I believe that they [Red Bull] are on an equal footing with Mercedes at the pace of development, but with the experience of the last few years, one is of course afraid that Mercedes – as soon as they understand the car better – is one step ahead again.

“I really hope – and this is not against Mercedes – that the fight will be fought on an equal footing and that it will remain an exciting fight.”
