Toto Wolff thinks Mick Schumacher didn't 'deliver' because he was under pressure

Mick Schumacher found himself out of the F1 seat for the 2023 season after the Haas F1 team decided to jettison the young driver for Nico Hulkenberg.

The American team said that they want to grow and therefore they believe that an experienced line-up will bring them more success than Schumacher.

Mercedes’s team principal Toto Wolff spoke highly of the F2 champion and believes that the brutal pressure was too much for the young driver at Haas.

Speaking at the Beyond The Grid podcast, Wolff said that Schumacher deserves another chance. The Austrian believes that things can easily go wrong during the first years of F1.

A year off will help Mick Schumacher

As the 2022 campaign came to an end, Schumacher failed to match his teammate Kevin Magnussen’s results. Magnussen who only returned to Formula 1 this year claimed more points than Schumacher and even secured a surprise pole position.

But Wolff still has faith in Schumacher’s abilities. He suggested that a season away from the support similar to Daniel Ricciardo will help Schumacher.

The young German has always had an everlasting impression on the Mercedes boss. “He won F3 and F2. That can’t come out of nowhere,” Wolff further added.

Schumacher is confident of being a top F1 driver

A lot of people have been critical of Haas snubbing Schumacher. Experts and pundits believe that German has the potential to do what it takes.

Schumacher himself believes that his performance in the team has been exactly what the team should have expected from him as a young driver.

The F2 champion made his F1 debut in 2021 and outperformed his then-teammate Nikita Mazepin. He received massive praise for his performance in the last season. In the current season, he was paired with a much more experienced driver, Magnussen and got outpaced on multiple occasions.

After his snub, the 23-year-old said that ‘nobody is fully a complete driver in F1 after 2 years and he is sure of becoming a top driver once he learns.
